24" Large Shrek Plush Toy 100% Ogre Stuffed Animal

Large Shrek stuffed animal is a cute 100% ogre designed in 3 dimensional form. Size and proportion conforming to the actual character from Shrek movie.
Customer Review: Adorable and Durable
Shrek is well made and durable. The material seems like it will be easy to clean. My 2 1/2 yr. old granddaughter loves the 24" Shrek. He is her new found friend. He is light enough for her to carry around and big enough that she has a pretend playmate. We are so happy that we purchased Shrek for her. It isn't an educational toy or I would have given Shrek 5 stars.

When it comes to toys, there's a lot to be said for the appeal of the classics. Most of us have fond memories of playing with a train set, pounding out chaotic melodies on a xylophone, or pulling one of those telephone-on-wheels with the rolling eyes. We have fond memories of those toys because they were a heck of a lot of fun. Sooner or later, most kids develop an interest in whatever the Big Toy is this year. Most parents have not-so-fond memories of shelling out loads of cash for whatever the hit baby dolls toys or super cool action figures are this year, only to have the kids wind up forgetting all about those Christmas presents in a month or two. The classic children's wooden toys, the old school train sets and doll house toys, they all have a sort of timeless appeal, which is why toy companies keep making them. Here's some info on a few of the more iconic classics:

A Brief History of the Xylophone

The xylophone is actually based on an ancient design which originated in Africa and Asia. Interestingly, the instrument was developed independently in both countries, rather than being based on a design by just one person. In Africa, the instrument still carries cultural significance.

It is believed that the xylophone must've reached Europe during the Crusades. In the early 20th Century, the instrument became popular in American jazz bands, until it was displaced by the vibraphone, but not before a miniaturized version caught on around the world as an inexpensive toy for children with an interest in music.

The Train Set

Known in the US as Model Railroading and in the UK, Australia and Canada as Railway Modelling, train sets have an incredible appeal not only to children, but to full grown adults. The earliest form of the model train was seen in the 1840's, and was known as the carpet railway. These early models were considered fairly crude representations of the real thing, and it wasn't until the early 20th Century that more realistic models began to exist.

Today, railway modelling is a deeply involving hobby with various levels of sophistication available to the hobbyist. You probably don't want to break the bank helping your child collect hundreds of so called "prototypically accurate" models and rails, so there are simpler kits available through child toy stores to allow the fun of playing with model trains without having to spend too much money or worry about the more delicate models breaking all the time.

Wooden Toys

There are literally hundreds and hundreds of different types of wooden toys available. The benefit of classic wooden toys is that, not only do they have a kind of timeless appeal, often times they are also dirt cheap, and they are usually quite durable, without any pointy edges or easily breakable parts. Baby wooden toys are available, providing a safer alternative to pointy plastic toys, and there are plenty of small wooden models, such as airplane toys.

A Brief History of the Teddy Bear

A piece of not-so-little-known trivia is that the Teddy Bear was named after American president Theodore Roosevelt. What fewer people know, however, is that the concept came from a political cartoon printed in 1902. The cartoon depicted an actual incident in which, on a hunting trip to Mississippi, Roosevelt's attendants had managed to tie a black bear to a tree for the president to shoot (as he was the only member of the hunting party who hadn't shot anything yet), and Roosevelt refused, deeming it unsportsmanlike. When Brooklyn store owner Morris Michtom saw the cartoon, he was inspired to create little stuffed bears, which he displayed in his store window beside a sign reading "Teddy's Bear".

The immediate success of the toy allowed Michtom to found the Ideal Novelty and Toy Company, which still supplies teddy bears to toy shops even today.
