This is quite an interesting phase in your toddler's life, since he is trying to be independent but at same time quite dependent on you and others to fulfill his needs. As a parent we feel its our duty to put our kid's demands / needs above ourselves and others but practically this is not feasible always. Explain rights and duties : Don't just demand rights, explain them. Instead of saying "I Cannot play, I'm working in kitchen or I'm reading book" , explain "Mama has got to work she has to finish cooking for dinner so that we all can have dinner at time" or "Mama is reading an interesting book, she likes reading as you like playing with blocks, so play by yourself for sometime". It may be possible that your demand is still refused but we have started planting in kid's mind that they need to wait till their wishes can be fulfilled.

Introduce feelings: It's unreasonable to expect toddlers not treating their playmates as object so snatching a toy or hitting them is still not acceptable. Instead of saying "Give teddy back, it's not yours", explain "How will you feel if someone takes your toys and push you, you will not like it same way she's also sad when you took her toy". There are quite a good chances for this demand to be refused as well, introduce a concept of thinking chair, make your kid sit on his chair and think if he's doing right or wrong, initially he may not understand, and even say that he's right but it begins to imbibe in his/her mind and provide distraction for a while. In case kid doesn't understand, divert him to some other activity and give time to imbibe this in him.

Respect your toddler's rights and feelings: While introducing this tough concept, don't neglect your toddler's feelings unknowingly, like sharing your kid's favorite toy with a visiting playmate. Always ask your toddler and if he refuses ask him to give some other toy so that both can play and enjoy together at the same time.

Set yourself as an example: Toddlers always look at their parents and that's greatest impact on their minds. So make sure while making them, learn respecting feeling of others, don't embarrass a baby sitter or snap at anyone. This sends wrong message to young minds that such a behavior is acceptable and it won't matter what you say in contrary.

I agree its quite difficult, but one of the most required facets to stay in social environment and setting correct examples will eventually lead to what we want to attain, making our toddlers learn that all humans around him have feelings and have some rights, besides fulfilling their duties. You may feel your toddler does not understand and you may end up taking a harsh way but trust me it won't work, you have to show patience and your toddler will learn it eventually.

Proper grammar is a critically important tool for success in school, work, and life. We are judged, sometimes quite severely, by the words we use and the way we use them in both our speaking and writing. Misused grammar betrays us. The way we talk and write reflects our background, education, and ability to communicate.

The Five Myths of Grammar Instruction

1. Grammar is acquired naturally; it does not need to be taught. Oral language is not always an efficient teacher. In fact, it can be quite a mixed bag. For every proper modeling of the pronoun in the sentence: It is I, students hear at least five models of the incorrect: It is me. Grammar as it is caught must be complemented by a grammar that is taught.

2. Grammar is a meaningless collection of rules-most of which don't work half the time. This myth may have developed from mindless "drill and kill" grammatical exercises with no application to real writing. Actually, our English grammar is remarkably flexible and consistent.

3. Grammar cannot be learned by students with some learning styles or disabilities.
While it may be true that students learn language differently, at different rates, and vary in proficiency, there has been no research to show that some students cannot learn grammar.

4. English grammar cannot be learned by second language learners. Some teachers think that students who speak other languages get confused between the primary language and English grammars. The research proves otherwise. Intuitively, many of us have significantly increased our own knowledge of English grammar by taking a foreign language.

5. Reading and writing a lot will improve grammar. Reading grammatically rich literature is wonderful, but learning is not passive and does not come by osmosis. Writing poorly may, indeed, reinforce poor grammatical usage.

How we should teach grammar to Johnny...

Don't waste time teaching Johnny what he already knows. Find out what he does not know and target these areas of grammatical deficits. Use a good diagnostic assessment found on the web or at your local bookstore. Have Johnny practice those weaknesses with specific skill worksheets.

Teach the language of grammar and recognition of the common grammatical structures. Johnny has to know what a prepositional phrase is and how to know one when he sees one. In fact, over 30% of academic writing is composed of this grammatical form. Maybe learning "Conjunction Junction, What's Your Function" on Sesame Street was not such a bad idea after all.

Teach grammar in the context of writing. Using the common grammatical structures, have Johnny begin half of his written sentences with different sentence openers. This practice serves two purposes: It teaches recognition and manipulation of grammatical structures and it improves sentence variety.

The famous story book bear character "Winnie the Pooh" has a real life connection back to the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

The British author A.A. Milne , who created and wrote the world famous Winnie the Pooh character , named the bear character after a favorite stuffed toy bear owned by the author's young son - Christopher Milne. The interesting question is how, where and why did young Christopher Milne name his favorite toy bear "Pooh".

It seems that Christopher Milne named the toy after a favorite actual real life alive bear that lived and was on display at the London Zoo, in London England. Then as now a major enjoyable jaunt by families on weekend trips was to the Zoo - in this case the London Zoo. Young Christopher Milne was so enamored and enthralled with the zoo bear named "Winnie" that he named his favorite toy after the bear. Thus when his father - the author, wrote his books of poetry and novels and named the central character, this was directly after the bear at the London Zoo - the bear named "Winnie".

The name "Winnie the Pooh" has a direct connection to the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. A black bear cub "Winnipeg ", proper, or the shortened nickname "Winnie" , was the mascot of the "Fort Garry Horse" , a Winnipeg based infantry unit.

Along the way of the transport of the Fort Garry Horse unit across Canada by train the train attended a "whistle stop" at White River Ontario. Among the members of this unit was a young veterinarian, who had enlisted in the army, named Harry Colebourn. Harry had a real appreciation and a real manner with animals - be they domesticated, farm stock or wild animals.

While at the White River Train station, the young Lieutenant Colebourn took the time to notice a hunter carrying a black bear cub. It seemed that the hunter had shot the mother bear. The young cub was a sort of pet and was too young to care for itself or fend for itself in the wild. Harry Colebourn took interest and pity on the poor black bear cub realizing that the hunter would soon lose interest or would be unable to care for the bear to a point that it could be released back into the wild. After a period of haggling the hunter reluctantly sold the young, innocent yet playful bear cub to Mr. Colebourn for the then princely sum of $ 20. After purchasing the bear, and becoming familiar with it during the train journey to the Canadian province of Quebec - name the bear after his and the regiment's home town of Winnipeg. At some point this was shortened to the bear's nickname of "Winnie". Thus the young bear cub was named "Winnipeg" and nicknamed for short "Winnie" "

Winnie the bear cub went along for the train ride, as well as the boat ride and traveled with this Canadian infantry group all the way to England. The bear cub "Winnie" became the famed mascot of the Winnipeg based "Fort Garry Horse Regiment" While stationed in England , at Salisbury Plain , Winnipeg the bear of "Winnie " for short stayed in Lieutenant Colebourne's tent , sleeping under his cot , and becoming a favorite of the Canadian soldiers.

This bear cub "Winnie" stayed with the regiment and continued to be a source of pleasure and enjoyment to the group and indeed became rather famous and well known. However when the regiment itself unfortunately was to be shipped off to the battlefields of France Harry placed Winnie in the safeguard and safekeeping of the London Zoo, in London England. Four years later, Harry Colebourn, now promoted to Captain returned to London to take Winnie home. However seeing what a beloved fixture and hit she was to the British schoolchildren Colebourn decided to let the bear stay put and officially donated Winnie to the London Zoo making the zoo the rightful owner and guardian.

When one realizes the world wide impact that resulted from the story book character of Winnie the Pooh to children throughout the world and in many different languages in culture one can envision the admiration and love that young Christopher Milne had for the black bear cub "Winnipeg" or "Winnie" the Pooh for short.

A piece of not-so-little-known trivia is that the Teddy Bear was named after American president Theodore Roosevelt. The cartoon depicted an actual incident in which, on a hunting trip to Mississippi, Roosevelt's attendants had managed to tie a black bear to a tree for the president to shoot (as he was the only member of the hunting party who hadn't shot anything yet), and Roosevelt refused, deeming it unsportsmanlike. What kid didn't want to put on a chef's apron and hat after watching Linguini Alfredo zip around the kitchen at Gusteau's Restaurant in Paris? This figure is a perfect likeness, speaks lines from the movie, and holds up well to little hands who love to toss around and play. I especially like this version of Linguini since his face is a hard, rubbery plastic, as opposed to other dolls sold here which are plush faced and don't look like the real character at all. Our kids love these toy dolls from Ratatouille, which by the way, is one of the best films to come out for kids (and grown ups too) in a long time. Lots of positive messages of loyalty and friendship throughout.
